Road Worthy Certificates
There are 4 main reasons for needing a Road Worthy Certificate, as a requirement by Queensland Transport.
A safety certificate is needed when:
- a registered light vehicle is offered for sale in Queensland, or
- transferring registration to a new owner, or
- when transferring to Queensland registration from another state or territory, or
- when re-registering an unregistered vehicle.
Vehicles requiring a safety certificate are:
- cars
- motocycles
- trailers (including caravans)
- any other vehicles up to 4,500kg gross vehicle mass (GVM).
When selling a car you must obtain a safety certificate. As an Approved inspection mechanics, our team will check over the vehicle and provide a safety certificate on completion. The check over will include –
- tyres
- engine
- brakes
- suspension
- steering
- windscreen
- lights
- check over of interior and exterior for damage including rust
Large and heavy vehicles require an annual Certificate of Inspection and a HVRAS Inspection. This can be arranged with QLD Transport directly.
Once your certificate is finalised you will need to have this displayed on your vehicle whilst it is for sale. Once a safety certificate is issued it is valid for two months or 2000 km whichever comes first.
